The Practical Data Community Substack is an open publication where community members can publish high-quality articles on data engineering, data architecture, data modeling, ML/AI, and related topics. There are no sponsorships or commercial interests. We are just focused on great ideas from great people.

This page covers what we're looking for, how to submit, and what to expect.

What We Publish

We're looking for articles that make data practitioners better at their jobs. The best submissions share a few qualities:

Original thinking over rehashed tutorials. Share your unique perspective, something readers can't find in 10 other blog posts. "Here's how I set up Airflow" scores low. "Here's why most orchestration thinking is backwards" scores high.

Practical over theoretical. Ground your ideas in real-world experience. Show, don't just tell. If you built something, broke something, or learned something the hard way, that's what we want to hear about. That said, if your idea is truly groundbreaking but still theoretical, send it over.

No vendor pitches or product marketing. Mentioning tools you use is fine. Writing an ad for your employer is not. If we detect a hidden vendor pitch, your submission will be declined.

Topic Areas

We welcome articles on:

If your topic doesn't fit neatly into one of these but is relevant to the data community, submit it anyway. We'll consider anything that makes people think.
